I only needed to decide whether the person attached to them still belonged in my future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He did not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I deleted the contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then I called my mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just black pants, a soft sweater, and the jacket I had owned long before Jake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back then I had felt trapped by a wedding three days away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now the elevator doors opened onto the lobby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nothing blocked them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
